Fairy Tale Tasting Lounge

For samples of delectable desserts prepared by our very own Chef Juan Manuel Velasquez Limon.

Chef Juan Velasquez grew up in Soledad, California, where his passion for cooking came alive. With Soledad being a heavy agriculture community, it made having fresh vegetables readily available, which drove his creativity.

At the age of 12, Juan moved to Yuma, AZ and started his Freshman year at Yuma High School where he attended culinary classes. Later, he attended Arizona Western College Culinary Program and received his Culinary Certificate. After his graduation, he was an apprentice under Chef Moises Fitch at the Yuma Golf and Country Club. Knowing that he wanted to further his profession, Juan worked with many different local and abroad Chefs to perfect his craft even further.

Currently, he works for the City of Yuma as the Head Chef at the Yuma Civic Center. Juan personalizes all of his plates with something different each time. He welcomes the challenge of sitting with his customer and bringing to life their vision in food. Chef Juan’s passion is to make sure dishes are not only tasty, but he wants to ensure everyone enjoys their moment. Recently, Juan opened up his own catering business to further his profession in the Yuma market. Juan’s drive to create masterpieces comes from a bible verse he lives by. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all in the glory of God” - Corinthians 10:31.

Whether you’re planning a private party (weddings, quinceañeras, birthdays, personal events) or a small business meeting (seminars, workshops, expos, etc.) the Civic Center’s knowledgeable and friendly staff will ensure your visit and event is successful.

We offer indoor and outdoor, affordable rental space to accommodate a wide variety of events. Regardless of the temperature or season, featuring the Sunset Terrace overlooking the City of Yuma Desert Hills Golf Course and 43,000 indoor square feet, the Yuma Civic Center is the perfect gathering place.

Starting September 19th, Chef Juan will be conducting Culinary Classes! Join us as he teaches you how to make authentic foods!

Contact Yuma Civic Center to register for the September Cooking Classes. September 19, 23, 30. Call Kathryn Rodriguez to save your space.
