While the new store was being built, owners Brandon and Synthya Chavez combined Code Boutique and Senny’s Bridal and Accessories at a temporary home at 2385 S. 4th Ave.

Code Boutique offers formal wear and tuxedo rentals for weddings, quinceañeras, proms, military balls, etc., and Senny’s has jewelry and accessories for brides and special occasions.

Nikki’s Chickies Farm Shop is now located at 1700 S. 1st Ave., Suite 309.

Local beekeepers and Medjool date farmers Nicole and Tyler Burns established Nikki’s Chickies in 2016 with the idea of offering fresh items to the local community. Both born and raised in Yuma, running a small farm and saving bees are their passions.

They offer farm-to-table products from their “happy” bees and chickens, including pure, raw honey, straight from the hive to the jar and even your doorstep, if you request free delivery.

The shop carries fresh eggs, gift baskets and honey tepache kombucha, made by Lucha Kombucha with Nikki’s Chickies raw honey. They grow, harvest and sell jumbo medjool dates and make delicious date bread.

Title Alliance, an employee-owned family of full-service title insurance and escrow agencies, has opened a new office in Yuma. The office is located at 2511 E. 24th St., Suite B.

Title Alliance has partnered with Keller Williams Yuma. With this addition, the company will have expanded the company’s growing footprint to more than 10 locations in Arizona and more than 50 offices nationwide.

Sesame’s Kitchen, 11274 S. Fortuna Road, Suite 8, is another restaurant that closed but reopened under new ownership. The Chinese restaurant is located in the Pioneer Shopping Center in the Foothills.

Cheryl Piceno is the new owner. Everything remains the same, with lunch and dinner specials, and she welcomes customers back. “We’re ready,” she said.

Founder and previous owner David Wong “decided to set sail on new adventures and retire.” Wong thanked his guests for their support over the years.

Yuma Regional Medical Center has launched an online gift shop, so friends and family can safely and securely purchase gifts for patients that are then delivered to their rooms.

YRMC noted that it can be a stressful and difficult time for families when a loved one is hospitalized and it’s even more during this pandemic. “While nothing can replace the healing powers of human touch, we know that candy baskets, teddy bears, and small gestures stand as a constant reminder to patients that they are on the minds of loved ones,” the hospital said.

La Doña, a new restaurant in the Foothills, is now offering the Yuma community a “taste of real Mexico” with shrimp cocktails, carnitas, chilaquiles, and potatoes and chorizo. It also serves freshly made agua

frescas, such as horchata, jamaica (hibiscus) and agua

de pepino (cucumber).

The family-owned restaurant opened its doors at 12415 S. Frontage Road, the site of the old Mandarin and, most recently, The Chicken (not to be confused with Rick’s Kitchen, which also recently opened at 12471 S. Frontage Road).

Arizona@Work-Yuma County has expanded its services to the residents of Somerton and all South County. The Arizona@Work Somerton Resource Center, located at 201 N. Bingham Ave., Suite 6, provides workforce services for adults and youth as well as recruitment and staffing assistance for employers and businesses in South County.

Foothills residents have another food option available. Birrieria El Gordo, owned by Liz and Gerry Orozco, is now serving up its signature dish at 10179 S. Frontage Road, in the Southwest Exchange parking lot.

El Gordo serves its birria in various ways, including in a bowl and in tacos and quesadillas and with nachos or ramen, as well as other ways. Rice and beans optional.

El Gordo’s in-town location is 2129 E. 24th St., at the corner of Pacific Avenue.

Once a vendor has completed the service, the lawn care pro will send a time-stamped photo of the completed work. Homeowners can then pay via the app and set up more appointments.

There’s a new pizza connoisseur in town and many people are raving about it. Bro’s Pizza, Yuma’s only woodfired pizza, recently started serving specialty pies on the front patio at 12635 S. Frontage Road, in the Foothills.

“From our fresh ingredients to Abraham’s dough skills, we try to create some delicious woodfired pizza for you guys! Bro’s Pizza is a family-run new small local business ready to serve Yuma,” the company stated.

Bro’s Pizza takes online orders and offers carry-out but doesn’t deliver or take phone orders. It’s open 4-9 p.m. Wednesdays to Saturdays and 4-9 p.m. Sundays.

plant is located at the Magrino Industrial Park, 5184 E. Vaughan St., near the San Luis Port of Entry II. The company invested $4.5 million in the project.

In February 2020, business partners Henry Chávez and Mario Jáuregui led the groundbreaking ceremony for the new 26,000-square-foot plant, which is expected to meet the growing demand for perishable cooling spaces in Yuma County.

Spindle provides refrigeration and temporary storage for perishable products, a high-demand service in the county. In 2020, the firm broke its export record, with 61 shipments to Mexico and 2.5 million pounds of fruit in one day.

“We have 5,000 or 6,000 trucks a year. Hopefully we can bring about 10,000 trucks,” Chavez told the Yuma Sun’s sister newspaper, Bajo El Sol.

The entire facility is leased, and 100% of the freezer space is being used. Plans for growth are already underway.

As of April 1, the Treehouse Kids Club is at a new location, 2350 S. Virginia Drive. The 1730 S. 4th Ave. site is no longer in operation. The facility will hold an open house on April 10.

The Treehouse is Yuma’s only hourly drop-in facility that offers full-time childcare and preschool for 3- and 4-yearolds. Children ages 1-12 are welcome to stay for up to 12 hours.

The new facility has two infant rooms and a lactation lounge for nursing moms. Treehouse noted that infant care was at the top of its list when it started looking for a new facility.

After traveling seasonally and offering their food at the Arizona Market Place when in Yuma, Rick and Sherli Scearce have decided to settle down in Yuma full time and open a permanent location.

Rick’s Kitchen is located at 12471 S. Frontage Road, the site of the old, old Chicken on the Run (before it became The Chicken and moved down the road).

They serve all-day breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday, with indoor and patio seating. Dogs are welcome on the outside patio.

They cook up a wide selection of breakfast, from a basic all-American-styled breakfast to burritos and specialities. The lunch menu options include burgers, sandwiches and baskets. They are famously known for their cheeseburger that comes with two slices of cheese on it and are “Home of the Hand Dipped Corndog.”
