Hunter Nelson

Cibola senior

The lowdown:

After narrowly winning this award as a junior, Hunter left no doubt as to who was the best boys golfer in town this year. His regular season included a nine-hole scoring average of 36.7 — which was nearly eight strokes better than anybody else’s — eight rounds in the 30s, a low of 33 and a 13-stroke victory at the YUHSD Championship. Then at the AIA Division I state tournament, Hunter — thanks to a 66 on day two — finished tied for ninth, which was the highest state finish by a YUHSD boys golfer since 2009.
