The lowdown:

After beginning the season as Cibola’s No. 2, Bennett took over the title of area’s best thanks to a three-week run that saw him win the Yuma Union High School District meet, finish 21st at a strong Division I Section III meet and post the area’s fastest time at state in a 47th-place Division I finish. He set a personal-best 5-kilometer time of 16:42 at Nike Desert Twilight.
